Systems Performance Analyst (Data Analysis)

The Sr Systems Engineer will support the Networks & Connectivity Engineering division at the Annapolis, Maryland headquarters, focusing on the GLOBALink system—an air-to-ground communications system serving commercial aviation and government air traffic authorities worldwide. The role involves working with a complex infrastructure of radio ground stations, satellite interfaces, airline systems, and proprietary servers, all subject to continuous technological evolution. Additionally, the engineer will support the Technical Lead Engineer for the Data Comm Program.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering analysis of the GLOBALink service and DataComm operational defects.
• Develop complex SQL queries to gather and analyze engineering performance data.
• Develop and maintain Python scripts for data analysis and performance monitoring tools (Python and Visual Basic).
• Produce and maintain business intelligence dashboards using Tableau and Databricks.
• Conduct audits, including analyzing call records and logs for aircraft to identify issues.
• Become fluent in GLOBALink’s communication protocols (ACARS/VDL/ATN/FANS/CPDLC).
• Attend industry engineering meetings and analyze individual aircraft and airline fleet performance issues.
• Analyze RF coverage and provide ongoing support for Surface, En Route, and Transition Region coverage issues.
• Present findings and conclusions to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Industry experience in complex data analysis.
• Substantial Python and SQL programming experience.
• Dashboard development using Tableau and Databricks.
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Fluent in English with strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience analyzing performance of complex systems through statistical analysis.
• Experience working in a highly integrated team environment with software, hardware, and network engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or technical equivalent (Master’s preferred).
• Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts (desired).
• Visual Basic programming with Visual Studio experience (desired).
• Experience with communications systems, aeronautical communication, or air traffic management (desired).
• Experience working in a service-oriented business model for engineering or with government customers (desired).
• Experience with storage and management of large data sets (desired).
• Proficiency with tools such as Excel/VBA, R, Matlab, or Labview for analyzing large data sets (desired).
