About the role
Robotics & Digital Solutions, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Systems Integration Engineer - Compute Hardware to focus on integrating complex compute and vision hardware systems, located in Santa Clara, CA.
Responsibilities
- Bring-up, debug, and integrate electrical, software, firmware, and mechanical components to build complex systems
- Conduct root cause investigations into system failures, provide critical input to design teams, and engineer innovative features to prevent future issues
- Characterize and calibrate system performance
- Define and develop production tests, in collaboration with the manufacturing team
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, robotics control, surgical instruments, clinical, architecture, manufacturing, operations, service, etc.
Requirements
- One of the following combinations of years of experience and education are required:
- BS in Computer, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent with 2+ years relevant experience
- MS/PhD in Computer, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent with 1+ years relevant experience
Core qualifications include:
- Fundamental understanding across computer hardware, software, embedded systems, operating systems, networking, board-level electronics circuits, power electronics, plus depth in one or more of these areas is required.
- Hands on experience (academia or industry) integrating, bringing-up, and debugging complex systems that include electronics, embedded systems, computers, servers, instrumentation, networking equipment, and/or sensors is required.
- Strong proficiency in Python for programming, scripting, and modifying existing code is required.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, organization, and collaboration through project experience is required.
- Demonstrated skills in decomposing complex, ambiguous engineering issues into solvable problems is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of problems with a can-do attitude, taking initiative to identify solutions is preferred.
- Experience designing and bringing up new PCBs and integrating with sensors, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino), and mechanical components is preferred.
- Exposure to biomedical engineering or robotics is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work on-site in Santa Clara, California is required.

Pay
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $106,000 - $170,775.
Benefits
- Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
- Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
- Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
- Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
- Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
- Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
