Hardware Software Integration Engineer
About the role
The Hardware Software Integration Engineer will support the deployment, integration, and reliability of next-generation compute, sensor, and networking systems used in autonomous vehicles. This role involves working at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software, ensuring critical vehicle subsystems operate reliably throughout development, manufacturing, and fleet operations.
Responsibilities
Lead the investigation, debugging, and resolution of complex hardware-software integration issues across vehicle platforms.
Partner with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, test, and operations teams to identify root causes and drive corrective actions to closure.
Support vehicle hardware bring-up, validation, and manufacturing readiness activities for compute, sensor, and networking systems.
Develop and execute test plans, validation procedures, and system-level test strategies to support vehicle integration and production requirements.
Build and maintain automation tools, debugging workflows, and test infrastructure to improve issue investigation and test coverage.
Utilize diagnostic and analysis tools to evaluate system performance, investigate failures, and support root cause analysis.
Develop processes and operational workflows that improve vehicle reliability, fleet stability, and deployment readiness.
Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve future hardware, firmware, and software designs.
Travel domestically as needed to support fleet operations and engineering activities.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent hands-on experience may also be considered
2+ years of relevant industry experience
Experience debugging complex hardware, firmware, and software integration issues
Experience working with hardware communication interfaces and protocols, including Ethernet, CAN, USB, UART, LIN, I2C, and SPI
Experience developing test cases, validation plans, requirements, or test specifications
Proficiency with Python or a similar scripting language
Experience with Git or other version control systems
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and operations teams
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with requirements management and issue tracking tools such as Polarion, Jira, or similar platforms
Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
Experience working with microcontroller-based systems, sensing technologies, power electronics, or wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth, LTE, or NFC
Familiarity with electrical characterization equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and related laboratory tools
Experience supporting autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, or other complex embedded systems environments
