About the role

The Systems & Firmware Validation Engineer will bridge the gap between advanced firmware and heavy machinery, validating GNSS, laser, and sonic systems used on massive earthmoving machines. This role is part of CTCT, a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar, which develops positioning, control, and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines.

Responsibilities

  • Arcitect and develop specialized test hardware, including custom fixtures, loadboxes, and harnesses for complex system simulations.
  • Spearhead the execution of EVT, DVT, and PVT phases to ensure advanced firmware aligns with rigorous engineering standards.
  • Utilize CAN protocols (J1939) and diagnostic tools to monitor and analyze real-time performance of devices under test.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware-to-hardware integration issues.
  • Author and maintain high-level DVP&R documentation and comprehensive validation summaries that drive product readiness.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional lab validation and product testing experience with a focus on embedded systems.
  • Proven proficiency in developing scripting tools such as Python, Lua, or MATLAB for test automation.
  • Strong technical grasp of firmware testing methodologies and protocol-level troubleshooting (J1939/CAN).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Bonus points for experience with heavy machinery or automotive electronics validation, advanced knowledge of GNSS, optical, or sonic positioning technologies, and demonstrated success in managing complex lab infrastructure and harness creation.

Pay

This role is compensated at a range of $74,000.00 - $101,800.00 per year, with the actual salary determined by Trimble based on qualifications and experience. Trimble reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
