Successful hires will be responsible for managing the teams that develop and maintain our compute clusters and software environment, including: Linux clusters ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of CPU cores running Slurm and KubernetesState-of-the-art GPU clusters with hundreds of GPUsTens of petabytes of storageHigh-performance RDMA fabrics and wide-area networksPublic cloud environmentsLarge-scale scientific workflows to support our drug discovery research effortsMassively parallel custom supercomputersMaking all of the above available to researchers in a secure and convenient way Ideal candidates will have strong fundamental knowledge of Linux concepts such as file systems, networking, and processes in addition to practical experience administering Linux systems. Relevant areas of expertise might include large-installation systems administration, HPC systems engineering, programming and scripting of distributed systems in Python, high performance data-parallel computing, systems software, software development, and deployment of security tools, but specific knowledge of and level of experience in any of these areas is less critical than intellectual curiosity, versatility, and a track record of achievement. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, and at least five years of experience is preferred. Experience leading and managing teams is a plus but not required. We are looking to add innovative contributors who share our commitment to fostering a stimulating, positive, and collaborative work environment. D. E. Shaw Research (DESRES) develops and uses advanced computational technologies to understand the behavior of biologically and pharmaceutically significant molecules at an atomic level of detail, and to design precisely targeted, highly selective drugs for the treatment of various diseases. Among its core technologies is Anton, a proprietary special-purpose supercomputer that DESRES designed and constructed to vastly accelerate the process of molecular dynamics simulation. DESRES uses Anton machines and high-speed commodity hardware, together with machine learning methods and other computational techniques, in both internal and collaborative drug discovery programs.
