Job Summary

General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems. The GA-EMS Space Systems team is re-defining how customers can access the possibilities of space. GA-EMS offers modular and scalable satellite platforms backed with a history of operational flight experience to support defense, civil, commercial, and academic mission requirements. Our Space Systems team is looking to add a Systems Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead to support a small satellite development program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for technical, cost and schedule execution of the program’s Systems Engineering IPT.
  • Ensures all IPT work products are produced in accordance with the project plan to satisfy the customer requirements.
  • Ensures all IPT work product are completed on cost and schedule.
  • Define IMS tasks required to complete IPT scope of work to achieve program milestones.
  • Control account manager for assigned control accounts.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction of the Systems Engineering IPT for assigned program.
  • SE IPT typically includes: Mission and Space Vehicle SE, Cyber Security SE, Specialty Engineering, Launch System Integration SE, modeling & simulation, and system-level test.
  • Responsible for external stakeholder engagement for IPT’s scope of work frequently collaborating with customers, subcontractors and mission partners.
  • Using traditional and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches lead and contribute to the development all SE work products which may include: CONOPS, System Architecture, Requirements and Interface Control Documents, Mission and System Analysis, Trade Studies.
  • Lead effort for program requirement verification through the assembly, integration, and test process, including system-level test.
  • Contributes to conduct of program design and readiness reviews.
  • Collaborating with SE leadership and peers to ensure consistent implementation of SE practices across programs.
  • Opportunities will arise to support internal development and new business opportunities.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD.
  • May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have prior experience in space domain and satellite segment design.
  • Prior experience as an IPT lead or technical lead strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with the following tools is desired: Cameo, Magic Draw, DOORS, STK, Atlassian (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Active DoD Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance is required with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
