About the Role

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Systems Engineer II for our Military Avionics Flight Management department in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. You’ll work in an AGILE environment (teams of 6-10) designing and developing flight management software for military helicopters and aircraft. The team culture is highly collaborative, customer-focused, and values both technical excellence and soft skills.

This position may require extended working hours beyond a typical 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM schedule or a 40-hour work week.

Product focus: CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions, part of the Collins Integrated Avionics System, deployed on thousands of military aircraft. Capabilities include Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Tactical Communication.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a cross-functional team of Systems and Software engineers to design, develop, and test software features for flight management systems.
  • Grow expertise in Systems Engineering and Flight Management Systems.
  • Apply soft skills (leadership, communication, coordination, proactiveness) in a dynamic environment to deliver quality products to internal and external customers.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (less than 10%) as needed.

Requirements

You Must Have:

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with C, C++, DOORS, ADA, and/or Python.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Systems role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience with Software Lifecycle Development (Design, Requirements, Integration, Test).
  • Pilot/Avionics experience (e.g., Private Pilot license, Aircraft Maintenance, DO-178 Certification).
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance if required after hire.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may also be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, depending on role level and whether the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments are not guaranteed and depend on individual, business unit, and company performance.
