Systems Engineer II
About the role
The client develops and produces medical diagnostic tests and digital healthcare solutions that help clinicians identify the right treatments for patients, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. The client is seeking a passionate Systems Engineer II to join the Systems Integration Group supporting Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) products. This is a hands-on laboratory role focused on feasibility studies, product development, and system integration for end-to-end sequencing solutions. As a member of the Systems Integration team, you will optimize operating protocols, perform wet-lab experiments, support system integration activities, and contribute to improving the overall sequencing platform.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, analyze, and document experiments supporting feasibility, development, integration, verification, and validation of NGS workflows.
- Perform sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, PCR, DNA sequencing, and sequencing verification studies.
- Utilize the client platform to optimize operating protocols and support system-level integration activities.
- Interpret experimental results using sound experimental design and statistical analysis techniques.
- Troubleshoot laboratory, instrument, assay, and workflow issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to investigate failure modes and implement effective solutions.
- Develop, execute, and document verification and validation test cases based on product requirements.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and organized laboratory documentation following best laboratory practices.
- Partner with assay development, instrumentation, software, bioinformatics, and systems engineering teams to resolve integration challenges.
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on sequencing performance, throughput, reproducibility, robustness, and overall system reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 1–3+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with PCR, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation, library preparation, and/or Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- Minimum 2 years of experience using Python, MATLAB, Git, or similar tools for data analysis or laboratory automation.
- Experience applying statistical methods including Python, JMP, regression analysis, ANOVA, and statistical process control.
- Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in laboratory or instrument-based environments.
- Excellent documentation skills and commitment to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by applicable law.
