Systems Administrator (Systems Administrator 2)
About the role
The Systems Administrator 2 will administer and support daily operational requirements of computer network systems in a classified environment with SIPR (Secret Internet Protocol Router) connectivity. This role includes managing workstations, file servers, and web servers while maintaining strict security protocols required for classified operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems in classified SIPR environment, including coordination with network administrators
- Installs and configures hardware, software, and system upgrades for classified systems
- Manages network accounts and enforce network security protocols specific to classified environments
- Manages Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, File Server, Key Management Server, and other core IT services
- Implements and maintains network security tools including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection services
- Sets up administrator and service accounts while maintaining system documentation
- Tunes system performance and install system-wide software
- Allocates and manages mass storage space
- Provides backup and recovery coordination
- Trains staff on software applications applicable to their positions
- Maintains detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures and changes
- Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources
- Evaluates vendor products and make recommendations for hardware and software purchases
- Provides technical assistance to customers with information technology issues
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems with 3 years of professional experience in systems administration OR
- Master's degree in related field with 1 year of relevant experience
- Current or Active U.S. Secret clearance (must maintain throughout employment)
Preferred Requirements
- Prior experience performing systems administration in a classified space
- Experience with MS Windows OS and Red Hat OS
- Experience supporting the installation, configuration and maintenance of physical and virtual servers
- Familiarity with STIGs, Nessus, and the RMF process
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Physical Requirements
- Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the Systems Analyst discipline.
- Ability to lift physical desktop computers and rack mounted servers and other equipment.
