SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR, College of Engineering, Administration
About the role
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the implementation, deployment, and maintenance of business applications and their supporting systems and storage. This position requires knowledge of server management in a data center, virtualization, storage, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Linux management, as well as the fundamentals of container management and cloud computing.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily and long-term operational management of research computing through the management of researching, planning and implementing solutions to meet the goals of the various research labs and systems.
- Provide maintenance and technical support for research laboratory systems.
- Provide advice to researchers regarding technology.
- Manage the daily operation of the HPC environment.
- Research and analyze emerging technologies and solutions, devise a plan/strategy and implement those technologies as appropriate.
- Develop standards for operating procedures in the cluster environment.
- Exercise all management functions inherent in BU managers with respect to performance, planning, counseling and evaluation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
- Fluency in all client and server operating systems, to include MS Windows (all versions), MAC OS X and Linux.
- Proficiency in programming and scripting in several of the following languages: C, C++, PHP, Perl, ASP, JavaScript, SQL.
- Experience with web maintenance and programming, including understanding of HTML and CSS.
- Ability to manage projects and lead effectively.
- Ability to efficiently gather business requirements from end-users.
- Experience in management systems implementation and project management.
- Experience with datacenter management.
- Experience with virtual server architecture, including but not limited to VMWare, KVM, Hyper-V, and Citrix.
- Experience with enterprise storage technology, including but not limited to NetApp.
- Experience with classroom audio/visual equipment and other classroom-based technologies.
- ITIL certifications preferred.
- Experience writing technical documentation.
- Strong collaborative skill set.
- Experience developing and documenting policies and procedures.
- Experience with planning and preparing budgets.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
