Systems Administrator
About the role
The Systems Administrator will contribute to the maintenance and optimization of our critical IT infrastructure. The position requires a strong understanding of system administration principles, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems (Windows or Linux), applications, and hardware.
- Proactively monitor system performance and identify potential issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, escalating complex issues to senior staff when necessary.
- Implement and maintain system security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
- Perform regular system backups and recovery procedures.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaborate with other IT teams on projects and initiatives.
- Research and recommend new technologies and solutions to improve system performance and security.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of IT documentation and knowledge base articles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in system administration.
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows or Linux).
- In-depth knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA, or RHCE.
