About the role
Ensure the availability and integrity of both physical and virtual infrastructure for Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Code 50 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD).
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for both virtual and physical enterprise servers, operating and sustaining the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
- Monitor system performance, manage configurations, and perform maintenance and repairs for physical and virtual server and storage systems.
- Maintain records of system downtime and equipment inventory.
- Apply revisions to host system firmware and software.
- Collaborate with vendors to support various activities.
- Develop new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
- Perform troubleshooting, leading problem-solving efforts that may involve external vendors and support personnel.
- Install, modify, and maintain systems and utility software on server computer systems.
- Ensure high availability and satisfactory performance levels of critical computer resources.
- Develop procedures and documentation for the backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
- Plan and implement projects for computer operations and systems administration, providing input on directions and schedules.
- Create test procedures to validate upgrades and maintain existing functionality.
- Implement security policies, procedures, and best practices to safeguard the organization's digital assets.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Manage firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools to protect network integrity.
- Monitor network traffic for suspicious activities and respond to security incidents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience as a Systems Administrator with a focus on cybersecurity.
- Certification in cybersecurity (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP).
- Strong knowledge of network and system administration, including Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience managing server virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere or VMware Horizon.
- Experience with deploying and troubleshooting virtual desktop environments, including VDI.
- Experience with network virtualization and security platforms such as NSX.
- Experience with virtual cloud network design and sustainment.
- Experience developing system diagrams and design documents.
- Able to develop test plans and procedures.
- Experience with LAN Routing and Switching design, configuration, and troubleshooting (VLANs, 802.1Q trunks).
- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking and Brocade technology.
- Group Policy design and configuration experience.
- Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration experience.
- Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and anti-virus software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
