System Tester
Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is led by Secretary Janet Stanek and comprises three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (including the State’s Medicaid program, KanCare). About the role
The System Tester will leverage business analyst skills to understand and review requirements, collaborate with business users across agencies to assess needs, and see system changes through successful user acceptance testing and implementation readiness. The role involves understanding system design, writing test conditions and scripts, executing tests, and validating results. Research functions include planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating testing activities to ensure accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Use testing software tools and methodologies to test system batches, interfaces, conversion, reports, and overall application functionality for KDHE and DHCF computer systems, particularly the Kansas Eligibility Enforcement System (KEES) and the Kansas Modular Medicaid System (KMMS).
- Evaluate test results, research issues, log defects, and participate in defect retesting and triaging as necessary.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess business needs and ensure system changes meet requirements.
- Write and execute test scripts/scenarios, review them with business users, and validate expected results against actual results.
- If residing out of state, relocation to Kansas prior to the start date is required.
Requirements
- One year of experience in collecting, evaluating, studying, or reporting on statistical, economic, fiscal/budget, legislative, or administrative data. Education may substitute for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
- Valid Driver's License (required for operating state, private, or rental vehicles for state business).
- Verification of identity and employment eligibility to work in the United States (E-Verify participation). KDHE does not provide sponsorship for this position.
- Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate (required post-offer, pre-employment).
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma or GED (minimum).
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Strong proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.
- Experience with software testing types (Functional, Regression, User Interface).
- Experience writing and executing test scripts and analyzing/reporting test results.
- Experience using software testing tools and methodologies.
- Communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in software testing, particularly with Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS), large healthcare systems, or Medicaid eligibility systems.

Pay
Hourly pay range: $22.38 - $25.29. Salary varies based on education, experience, or qualifications.
Schedule
Full-time, regular position. Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (flexible schedules available).
