System Engineer, Level V

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is a premier government contractor providing staff augmentation to the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employed by AIS, working under day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff to advance the mission of ensuring a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent.

About the role

This position supports new machining center installations and existing machining production operations through configuration management, troubleshooting, maintenance, and related paperwork activities. The role requires a machining background and the ability to perform technical system and equipment troubleshooting in cooperation with other disciplines. Experience in an NRC or DOE-regulated environment is desirable, including understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interface effectively with clients, management, and hourly employees. Willingness to work in a production environment is required; Integrated Safety Management experience is a plus.

Expected work schedule: Monday through Thursday, 40 hours per week with potential for occasional overtime.

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Selected applicants may receive an offer but cannot begin work until funding is confirmed.

Responsibilities

• Support new machining center installations and existing machining production operations through configuration management, paperwork, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
• Perform troubleshooting and improvement activities for technical systems and equipment.
• Apply expertise in mechanical and electrical systems to resolve issues in cooperation with related disciplines.
• Interface effectively with clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
• Work in a production environment within a nuclear-regulated setting, adhering to Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance principles.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited BS degree in an Engineering discipline plus 15 or more years of relevant professional experience, or an MS degree in a relevant Engineering discipline with 12 or more years of relevant experience.
• Machining experience required; additional experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation.

Qualifications

• Experience with mechanical and electrical systems is preferred.
• Experience in an NRC or DOE-regulated environment is desirable.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Integrated Safety Management experience is a plus.

• Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.
• This position is identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position, requiring participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
