About the role

The MMOC supports multiple NASA missions at the NASA Ames Research Center, including the Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER), BioSentinel, and Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and secure IT systems and networks in support of unique project-related computational needs.
  • Install and update software, troubleshoot system issues, perform backups, and ensure compliance with NASA and Ames Research Center IT security policies.
  • Manage the IT infrastructure, including web servers, file servers, monitoring services, and virtual machine environments.
  • Provide technical expertise for special projects requiring IT or facilities support, including hardware/software integration, defining requirements, and laboratory expansions.
  • Support project and mission-specific needs, investigate cloud migration and AI/ML automation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or similar relevant STEM degree; 3-5 years of Systems Administration experience can potentially replace the degree requirement.
  • Understanding of basic Cybersecurity requirements.
  • Familiarity with RedHat, Ubuntu, Windows server and client system administration, OpenStack, VMWare, and SAN management.
  • Knowledge in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting.
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP.
  • Software languages - Knowledge of shell scripting, C++, Java.
  • Firm knowledge of Excel, Adobe, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook.
  • Cybersecurity, NIST 800-53, RSA Archer.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Skills

  • RedHat, UBUNTU system administration.
  • Windows server and client system administration.

Pay

$120,000 - $145,000

Schedule

Onsite 5 days per week (core hours 9-3)
