About the role

The Systems Administrator will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing the organization’s critical IT infrastructure. They will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, operating systems, applications, and hardware. Additionally, they will monitor system performance, troubleshoot technical issues, implement security measures, manage user accounts, and automate routine tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems (Windows or Linux), applications, and hardware.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and identify potential issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, escalating complex issues to senior staff when necessary.
  • Implement and maintain system security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Perform regular system backups and recovery procedures.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams on projects and initiatives.
  • Research and recommend new technologies and solutions to improve system performance and security.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of IT documentation and knowledge base articles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in system administration.
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows or Linux).
  • In-depth knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Required: Active Secret Clearance - Must be in compliance with DoD Directive 8140.
  • Preferred: Industry certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA, or RHCE.

Benefits

  • Work Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts.
  • Contract: Up for rebid in February 2027, expected to be a 10-year contract.
  • Work Setting: Onsite at AFNORTH A6, interacting with contractors from GDIT and other team members located at Tyndall AFB, FL, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.
