About the Role

The Systems Administrator Lead will provide design, maintenance, sustainment, and enhancement support for critical computer systems and network infrastructure in a classified environment. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with information assurance requirements, maintaining 24/7 continuity of operations, and creating/updating system documentation. Occasional support during non-business hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily, on-site support for operations and maintenance of systems across multiple classification levels.
• Mentor junior System Administrators.
• Oversee the technical implementation posture of information systems to ensure compliance with information assurance requirements.
• Manage Information Assurance IT personnel, including tasking oversight.
• Aid in establishing hardware and software standards.
• Assist in developing and automating technical solutions.
• Review compliance documents (policies, procedures) to ensure alignment with corporate directives and technical requirements.
• Engage with management on performance planning, technical matters, and root cause analysis for technical issues.
• Maintain and document technical standards.
• Disseminate IA documentation, policies, and procedures as required.

Requirements

• Minimum seven (7) years of experience as a System Administrator, including patching, installation, configuration, maintenance, and flaw remediation of servers, workstations, and other components in accordance with STIGs on a classified network.
• Minimum three (3) years of Linux administration experience (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with security agencies, customers, and senior management.
• Demonstrated experience deploying and managing multiple networks in a dynamic, air-gapped classified environment.
• Working knowledge of WAN/LAN, including Cisco-based routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Experience setting up and maintaining standalone and centralized Linux applications (e.g., Matlab, Python-based applications, GitLab, Jenkins, Kubernetes).
• Experience with user account and access control management (Active Directory, LDAP, User Access Control) in domain or standalone environments.
• Demonstrated experience integrating Linux workstations and servers with Windows Active Directory.
• Experience configuring and executing SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK), vulnerability management tools (Tenable Nessus), network storage devices (e.g., NetApp, Synology), monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, Snort, PRTG), and compliance tools (e.g., SCAP, SCC Tool, OpenSCAP).
• Experience providing backup and recovery services, managing file systems, and disk space.
• Experience with log aggregation technologies for collecting and filtering Linux syslog and audit trails.
• Experience with desktop and server virtualization using VMWare vSphere and ESXi.
• Ability to learn new technologies to assist with implementing new requirements.

Skills

• Valid Secret clearance with an in-scope background investigation date.
• Ability to pass a Top-Secret SCI background check and Counter-intelligence polygraph.
• DoD Directive 8570 / 8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP).

Qualifications

• Prior experience leading System Administrators in an organization of similar size and complexity.
• Understanding of network concepts and Type 1 encryption devices (e.g., TACLANE).
• Experience configuring and securing network equipment (switches and firewalls).
• Basic knowledge of Risk Management Framework (e.g., DAAPM, JSIG, NIST/DFARS compliance security controls) and their impact on IT configuration requirements for Windows and Linux systems.
• Capable of scripting or programming to automate tasks.
• Background in utilizing Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, and other Linux orchestration tools.
• Current Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or other advanced Linux systems administrator certifications.
