System Administrator (Full Time/Day Shift)

About the role

Under supervision of the department director, this position will administer and manage the LG computer system or systems and the various implications and interactions between the application and business processes. This role requires technical, functional, and analytical skills along with knowledge of how to leverage the system to provide the greatest benefit to the given LG functional area. The incumbent plans and coordinates unstructured activities around system use, performs system installations, maintenance, training, and user support within a defined application environment, and takes responsibility for the architecture and how the systems work internally and together.

This position supervises projects, people, and all aspects of system implementation, maintenance, and user support. The incumbent defines, promotes, and guides outcomes, interactions, and communications, integrating, organizing, and executing follow-through on projects, tasks, and system problems while working as part of a cross-functional team. Responsibilities include the administration of core business systems or integrated computer applications that span beyond a single department or system.

Responsibilities

  • Take initial requests from customers or others (e.g., new work or change requests) and identify expectations, scope, urgency, and defined benefits.
  • Coordinate with appropriate parties to ensure implications and interactions between applications and business processes for LG are identified and managed.
  • Identify skills required for successful implementation and complete base measurements for post-implementation review, including a detailed project plan, charter, objectives, and benefits agreed upon with System Administrator, User Management, IS Management, and Vendor.
  • Support and document implementation processes and system operations by designing system tables, scripts, backups, recovery processes, data conversion, scheduled downtime, and related support to achieve desired business benefits and capabilities.
  • Serve as a manager and liaison between vendor, IT Technical Services, and User Management on all application implementations, upgrades, and support issues.
  • Analyze and create reports for customers based on user and business needs via LG business software tools.
  • Design and develop training materials and plans, including scoring to assess staff readiness.
  • Review system functions, features, uptime, and downtime to ensure performance meets expectations and stability.
  • Perform regular ongoing reviews, such as post-implementation stability and performance measurements, to ensure the system functions as expected.
  • Provide timely responses by triaging Level 1 and 2 problems, troubleshooting, obtaining problem details, correcting issues, or escalating to the appropriate support level.
  • Establish a routine maintenance schedule based on system and user needs.
  • Maintain a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list.
  • Perform periodic benefit analyses to address business changes, application changes, or underutilized functionality.
  • Plan and manage application upgrades and budgetary obligations.
  • Obtain and coordinate new hardware and software purchases with IS technical staff and vendors to meet current and future needs.
  • Track and prioritize enhancements and problems to ensure the system operates in alignment with LG business goals.
  • Assist with the development of user requirements, concept design, and clarification of opportunities to create a mutually agreed-upon set of requirements for solution selection and project planning.
  • Assist in developing a Business Plan (BP), including expected benefits, costs, risks, and timing for management approval.
  • Support the final selection, contract negotiation, and approval process by organizing the BP, selection scorecard, and target implementation dates.
  • Assist with the development of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to ensure business continuity.
  • Coordinate the implementation of hardware, software, networks, physical site preparations, training, and test environments for implementations or process redesigns.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Coordinate the development of data conversion plans and execute data transfers from original sources to new applications.
  • Troubleshoot Level 3 problems and develop processes for undefined issues where the root cause is unknown or an entire system is affected.
  • Develop systems for problem avoidance, process improvement, and process redesign.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or a Science degree with an orientation toward automation and process improvement; or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
    • Systems problem-solving and analysis.
    • Purchasing, developing applications, testing programs/systems.
    • Managing implementations and conversions.
  • Two (2) years of project management experience involving computer software implementations, daily operational support, and system performance review and evaluation.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing leadership and direction to users of computer applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience developing test and training plans.
  • Two (2) years of medical or financial experience, depending on the specific System Administrator role.
  • Two (2) years of experience conducting meetings, preparing status reports, and supporting users, team members, and vendors with problem-solving, RFPs, RFIs, and Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of experience assisting users and writing IS documentation.
