About the Role
Upper Allen Township is seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused Information Technology Specialist to support the Township's technology infrastructure and provide exceptional technical service to employees across all departments. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of the Township's computer systems, networks, servers, and business applications while helping staff effectively utilize technology to serve the community.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to users on system hardware and software applications.
- Facilitates training of hardware systems and software applications.
- Conducts analysis studies of present methods, applications, objectives, and pertinent data, followed by the acquisition and/or design of improved applications using information technology equipment and techniques.
- Reduces processes to a series of logical steps and writes instructions for executing those steps to enhance and achieve economical solutions.
- Analyzes and gathers data about current methods, applications, objectives, operating costs, work volumes, report requirements, and external applications influence; documents findings using data flow diagrams, tables, graphs, and narratives.
- Establishes and defines priorities of information technology projects and provides guidance, technical training, and assistance to all Upper Allen Township staff.
- Develops strategic plans for timely and organized transitions from existing processes/systems to new ones.
- Monitors the effectiveness of user operations and maintains communication with users, vendors/contractors, and others to identify and resolve systems deficiencies.
- Consults with Directors and users to discuss software and hardware needs, assesses existing systems, and prepares technical specifications for acquisitions.
- Troubleshoots, tests, and analyzes network and system malfunctions using diagnostic utility programs and test equipment.
- Manages coordination and implementation of network problem resolutions to ensure responsive and satisfactory service levels.
- Investigates, analyzes, and resolves end-user security and resource access control issues; conducts research into undocumented problems.
- Establishes and maintains the user environment through the creation of individual and group accounts, shared directories, and security permissions.
- Implements, maintains, monitors, and enforces network security measures and systems; audits security event logs for violations.
- Supports local network systems by configuring and managing servers, installing peripherals, and testing cables.
- Installs, maintains, and upgrades software related to the LAN, including servers, workstations, network operating systems, and application software.
- Modifies and maintains physical databases, ensuring processing efficiency and security.
- Monitors user operations to identify and rectify problems or system deficiencies.
- Maintains file backup and recovery systems for replacing damaged or corrupted files and databases.
- Develops and implements standards and procedures for network resource access and use.
- Assists higher-level IT specialists in designing, acquiring, installing, operating, and maintaining LAN environments.
- Schedules and monitors contractor services to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in applications development/maintenance, network operation/maintenance, web site development/design, or other IT support/administration services.
- An associate’s degree in any information technology field.
Preferred Qualifications
- An associate's degree in any information technology field, or four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in applications development/maintenance, network operation/maintenance, web site development/design, or other IT support/administration services.
