About the role

The System Administrator 2 (Cloud) supports, maintains, monitors, and implements the university's enterprise systems and services within GCP, AWS, and Azure cloud environments. This intermediate-level position works with senior System Administration staff to provide incident support, fulfill customer requests, and deploy systems and services as part of ongoing initiatives. The role reports to the System Administration Manager within central IT.

Responsibilities

  • Support and deploy technology for central IT services, including data storage, Active Directory, DNS, servers, cloud technologies, and virtualization.
  • Configure, maintain, and manage enterprise-class storage and server hardware, software, and services.
  • Travel to university campuses and remote facilities as necessary.
  • Monitor utilization and performance of systems and services; test and evaluate systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.
  • Collaborate with clients, technical staff, and vendors on service request fulfillment.
  • Troubleshoot system failures, escalating to senior technicians or vendors as needed; monitor incident reports and resolve problems with departments and end users.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to respond to service outages; serve as the initial escalation contact for Tier 1 (help desk) support while on call.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for systems and services managed by the department.
  • Ensure the security of shared services by implementing policies and practices to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or denial of service.
  • Share knowledge with peers and perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Six years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training can substitute for the education requirement.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience with implementing enterprise-class IT technologies.
  • Advanced working knowledge of computer systems, IAM, security, network and systems administration, and data storage systems related to GCP, AWS, and Azure cloud technologies.
  • Advanced work experience with GCP, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and a firm grasp of IT infrastructure and operations best practices.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of:

  • Google Cloud Infrastructure Manager, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager.
  • Ruby, Python, PowerShell, GitHub, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, Terraform, Jenkins, Apache Maven.
  • YAML, JSON, Slack, Wiz, Informatica.
  • Experience with ServiceNow and PAM applications is preferred.
  • Other desired skills: Nutanix AHV, VMWare, Linux, Windows/AD Administration, DNS, LDAP, Networking, Hyper-converged infrastructure, SQL cluster technologies, F5 BIG-IP load balancing, and HPC Administration.

Relevant certifications include:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Cloud Architect, MS Certified Azure Administrator/Solution Architect.
  • Nutanix Certified Professional, VCP, RHCS, RHCSA, MCSE, MCSA, SNCP, CCSP, SNIA, CCIE, CCNP, BCNE.
