Synthetic Organic/Polymer Chemist II

About the Role

Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Synthetic Organic/Polymer Chemist to join the Applied Research Team in Global R&D. This position is visible and significant, reporting to the Applied Research Group Leader in Bridgewater, NJ. The role involves designing and executing synthetic strategies for new product development, serving as a technical liaison, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance new products and solve customer challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design, initiate, and execute synthetic strategies for new product development.
• Function as a technical liaison to applications and marketing groups to advance new products and solve challenging technical problems for customers.
• Work closely with process and production engineers to scale-up new products at global manufacturing sites.
• Independently summarize and interpret analytical and application data.
• Author technical reports and present technical results to internal and external audiences.
• Maintain lab notebooks and logbooks in accordance with company guidelines.
• Comply with company procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures, and safety programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry.
• Understanding of chemical principles, good lab skills, and neat working habits.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment involving global customers, labs, and manufacturing sites.
• Good time management and organizational skills for supporting multiple projects.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Creativity, ingenuity, and initiative.
• United States citizenship or permanent resident status.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of work experience in synthetic organic or polymer chemistry.
• Understanding of synthetic and mechanistic organic chemistry.
• Evidence of creative problem solving.
