About the role
The Polymer Development Chemist is responsible for providing technical expertise in polymer chemistry processes, supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations, and ensuring efficient, high-quality production. The role includes hands-on troubleshooting, operator training, process optimization, continuous improvement initiatives, batch record and technical document support, deviation investigation and documentation, implementation of new component systems and process changes, in-process product testing, and compliance with SOPs, safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize polymer chemistry processes and chromatography column conditions to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance safety, yield, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide real-time troubleshooting support to manufacturing teams for process-related issues.
- Work closely with production operators, engineers, and quality teams to resolve process deviations and maintain continuous production.
- Develop and deliver training programs for operators and technicians on polymer chemistry processes, column packing and testing, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in polymer chemistry and provide technical guidance to the manufacturing team.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to integrate new processes into manufacturing and improve scalability and manufacturability.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret process data to monitor performance, identify trends, and support data-driven decisions.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma activities.
- Develop, review, and update SOPs, batch records, and process documentation for clarity and accuracy.
- Ensure all documentation complies with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, with a focus on Polymer Chemistry.
- Hands-on experience with Polymer Chemistry.
- 3+ years of experience in process development, manufacturing support, or a related role within the chemical or polymer industry.
- Experience with UPLC columns and IC columns.
- Proficiency with process modeling and statistical analysis software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, manufacturing processes, and manufacturing equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Proven ability to analyze process data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience training and developing technical staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory standards related to chemical manufacturing.
Pay
$30 to $36 per hour
