Sybase Architect

About the role

Cognizant is seeking a Sybase Architect to join their team. This role involves collaborating with hybrid teams to optimize performance, reliability, security, and operational efficiency while aligning infrastructure strategies with business outcomes and sustainable innovation.

Responsibilities

• Manage Production environments including implementation, maintenance, development, and staging databases
• Set up and configure ASE server databases on Unix/Windows
• Install and configure ASE Sybase on different environments and have knowledge of replication
• Support high availability of servers and databases using replication
• Create devices/user databases, set database options
• Monitor data/server error logs, manage database growth, set thresholds for data/log segments
• Create logins/users/aliases, contact Sybase personnel as needed
• Perform performance tuning and code optimization, backup and recovery, refresh UAT/development data servers, monitor performance of Linux boxes, maintain capacity management, schedule periodic jobs using cron utility, track scheduled jobs and take necessary actions when failed
• Support on-call for ad-hoc issues

Requirements

• Experience in all ticketing tools like Remedy/ITSM
• Experience in Database Migrations/Upgradations
• Experience in Patch Management
• Good Knowledge on Shell Scripting
• Process knowledge on Incident Management & Change management
• Good Trouble Shooting & Performance Tuning skills
• Physical Standby database configuration and maintenance for disaster recovery & business continuity
• Experience in handling Performance tuning issues
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with team members located in multiple geographies and time zones
• Flexible and willing to work in shifts
• Sybase ASE Certification (optional)
