Database Architect with Sybase and SQL Server

This project is to modernize aging Data Warehouse and Data Analytic systems utilizing new on-premises cloud- and container-based technologies.

Responsibilities

• Analysis, design, support, development, and reengineering of database structures in Sybase, SQL Server, and DB2.
• Provide performance analysis and tuning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and benchmark design.
• Design methodologies for data synchronization from various operational data stores (Mainframe DB2, Windows SQL Server, Sybase on Solaris, DB2 on AIX, and OpenShift) to a zLinux DB2 data warehouse.
• Planning, interfacing, and usage between z/OS and LUW DB2 application databases, data warehouse, Cognos, Identity Insight, and DataStage.
• Act as liaison between Data Management, business customers, and application development staff to ensure recommended performance considerations are included in reviews, designs, development, and implementation of applications.
• Create cost-effective and timely solutions to strategic business requirements utilizing database structures, application methodologies, and coding techniques.
• Determine database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and programming; review objectives with clients; evaluate current systems; provide database support by coding utilities, responding to user questions, and resolving problems.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in database architecture.
• 84 months of experience installing and configuring Sybase and SQL Server.
• 84 months of experience monitoring system performance and implementing performance tuning measures for Sybase and SQL Server databases.
• 84 months of experience managing and implementing database maintenance (reorgs, statistics, ensuring database is running optimally) in a server environment with Sybase and SQL Server databases.
• 84 months of experience documenting system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines for Sybase and SQL Server Databases in a server environment.
• 84 months of experience applying upgrades and security patches to critical operational databases.
• 84 months of experience using ERWin to create and maintain data models.
• 84 months of experience with Tableau or Cognos Analytics.
• 84 months of experience with data migration and conversion in relational databases.
• This is a 100% onsite role located in Albany, New York.
