About the Role
Our Middle School Humanities Special Education Teacher will work at our founding campus in Washington Heights, where programs are designed with students' personal interests and learning styles in mind. Reporting to the Principal and collaborating with the School Leadership Team, you will support high academic standards while addressing the social-emotional needs of all students.
We serve a community where 89% of families are Hispanic or Latinx, and we seek a dedicated, mission-aligned teacher for grades 6-8 who believes all students can thrive in a challenging, nurturing, and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including:
- Interactive, hands-on, creative learning
- Use of technology to support instruction
- Assessment-driven instruction
- Differentiated curriculum for diverse learners
- Apply co-teaching and ELL strategies
- Build strong relationships with students in both academic and non-instructional settings
- Utilize restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches
- Incorporate anti-racism education and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Engage in self-reflection and implement feedback to improve instruction
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant content area
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification (or willingness to enroll in a certification program and obtain certification within two years)
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
