About the Role
Join School in the Square in reimagining PreK-12th grade education in Washington Heights and Inwood. As a High School Humanities Special Education Teacher, you will report to the Principal and collaborate with a diverse School Leadership Team to support high academic standards while focusing on the social-emotional needs of all students. This role is ideal for educators who believe all students can thrive in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.
Our high school community empowers educators with content expertise and passion, providing autonomy and resources to teach creatively and effectively. We are seeking dedicated, mission-aligned teachers for grades 9-10.
Responsibilities
- Implement interactive, hands-on, and creative learning methods
- Use technology to support instruction across all areas
- Utilize assessment to drive instruction
- Differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Apply knowledge of co-teaching and ELL strategies
- Engage in restorative practices and trauma-informed teaching
- Incorporate anti-racism education and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Build strong relationships with students, supporting them academically and non-instructionally
- Accept and implement feedback to improve instruction
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a relevant content area
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification (or willingness to enroll in a certification program and obtain certification within two years)
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
- Strong communication, planning, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to anti-racism, culturally responsive pedagogy, and trauma-informed practices
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
