About the role
This position is for a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The role focuses on providing an exemplary, individualized, and engaging educational experience for students through school and community/family partnerships, a rigorous curriculum, and a data-driven, student-centered instructional model.
Responsibilities
- Instructional:
- Implement instructional strategies that stimulate learning and increase student engagement.
- Create instructional resources to meet the varying needs of students.
- Take ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in their achievement.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
- Participate in data analysis meetings to monitor student growth.
- Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams and instructional coaches regarding instruction, resources, interventions, and data-driven decision-making.
- Be open and available for regular coaching with administrators and instructional coaches.
- Adapt course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
- Submit grades and required student work, ensuring academic honesty and integrity.
- Maintain a grade book.
- Relationship Building:
- Collaborate with parents and colleagues to manage course goals, curriculum, and materials that enhance the learning experience.
- Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities or professional development.
- Host live synchronous sessions that promote a positive learning environment.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches/parents.
- Understand how diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students successfully progress through the program, parents have a central point of contact, and tasks are distributed among stakeholders.
- Respond to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Other Essential Functions:
- Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events, or other extracurricular activities as required.
- Travel to testing sites to proctor state exams.
- Build community and assist with enrollment or retention efforts as directed.
- Participate in committees as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission Teaching License with endorsement in Computer Science, Health/Physical Education, or Arts certification for Grades 6-8.
- Six (6) months of student teaching experience.
- Meet requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT).
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications
- Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
- Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and high level of organization.
- Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and ability to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9-5 or 8-4, or as defined by the school).
- Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school-related activities.
- Access to reliable high-speed internet.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
- Ability to pass a required background check.

- Experience working with the proposed age group (middle grades).
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience working in a virtual environment.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms.
Work Environment
This is a primarily home-based position with up to 25% travel required. The work environment involves using asynchronous and synchronous tools to deliver instruction and maintain communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
