About the role
As a Switchboard Operator at Holy Name, you will process all calls made to the switchboard and act as a general liaison between the public and Holy Name Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Answer telephone calls in a clear and concise manner and provide necessary information courteously and professionally.
- Advance callers to appropriate destination numbers.
- Process patient requests through a computerized telephone system for installation of patient telephones.
- Disconnect telephone service based on the IBM daily discharge list.
- Initiate opening and closing of patient’s phones according to designated time of service.
- Enter required data in various computerized voice/data systems.
- Orally telephone patients to inform them of telephone service and dialing instructions.
- Respond in a timely and professional manner to various emergency alarm systems and notify designated personnel; announce emergency codes over the paging system calmly and clearly.
- Demonstrate effective oral communication skills.
- Monitor lists of all current on-call emergency services and maintain correct beeper and home phone numbers.
- Understand all disaster plan policies and procedures and implement necessary responses accordingly.
- Forward repair requests and handicap equipment requests to the Director/Technician of Communications.
- Follow instructions and guidance given by the Director of Communication.
- Inform the Director of all patient or staff complaints or concerns.
- Perform any related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required).
- Trained and experienced on computerized PBX switchboards (Required).
- Computerized data entry experience (Preferred).
Skills
- A proven record of excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Pay
Pay Range: $18.00/hour - $21.00/hour. Final base compensation will be determined based on factors such as employment status (Full/Part-Time or Per Diem), skills, education, and experience, with consideration for internal pay equity.
