Role: The Switchboard Operator acts as the primary contact for incoming calls, operating multi-line telephone systems to route callers, provide information, and support emergency notifications. Responsibilities: Answer and screen high-volume calls, transfer to appropriate offices, maintain directories, support after-hours coverage, and document emergency and security-related communications. Assist with paging, announcements, and record-keeping while ensuring confidentiality and security compliance. Qualifications & Skills: High school diploma, at least one year experience with multi-line systems, strong customer service, and proficiency with communication tools like VoIP and PBX. Ability to type 30+ WPM, stay calm during high-pressure situations, and support federal facility operations. Additional Requirements: Must pass security background checks, be a U.S. citizen, and be able to operate various communication and office equipment. Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds and sit for extended periods is necessary. Work Environment: Office or facility setting, potentially supporting shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, with training provided on security and emergency protocols.
