About the role
Knife River is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic to join our Idaho division. This position operates a night shift and is responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Read and understand operating/maintenance manuals and/or technical schematics
- Conduct inspections of company fleet according to company policy and government regulations
- Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.
- Interact with vehicle/equipment operators, job site personnel, office personnel, vendors, and technical support to determine service or repair needs
- Diagnose problems and communicate to management
- Operate and maintain overhead and truck counted cranes
- Maintain equipment and tools in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
- Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment in adverse weather/environments (hot or cold, night or day)
- Operate and use forklift or skid loader in a safe and efficient manner
- Organize shop inventory for retrieval or storage
- Complete required paperwork for accounting, payroll, operations, or material inventory as directed
- Work safely and prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors
- Wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Class C license
- Minimum 5 years' experience working with semi-trucks and trailers
- Basic skills for trouble shooting and diagnostics
- Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
- Head movement/rotation moving head in any direction (up, down, side to side)
- Physical requirements: walking, bending, squatting, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Use of hands for grasping and fine manipulations
- Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
- Wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and gases
- Exposure to outside working conditions; to cold or hot temperatures
Preferred Qualifications
- Class B License with tankers endorsements
- Hazmat
- Forklift experience
