Position Summary
The Head Swim Coach is responsible for the day to day management of assigned age-group(s). The head coach is responsible for the overall planning and goal setting for this group while role modeling good sportsmanship and YMCA core values.
Requirements
- Coach and lead practices based on the needs of the age group and individual swimmers.
- Guides athletes in their assigned age-group with short and long term goal setting.
- Create swim meet entries for athletes in assigned group.
- Attend all swim meets that age-group is participating in. If unable to attend, arrange appropriate coaching and communicate to all necessary parties.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Completes related reports as required.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
- Attends all staff meetings.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
- Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
