Swim Team Coach

Responsibilities

• Plan workouts and coach youth on competitive swimming during practices and meets.
• Organize relays for swim meets.
• Direct Aides in working with participants.
• Perform record keeping and communicate progress to parents.
• Perform emergency first aid and life-saving techniques as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One-year previous coaching experience; experience teaching or coaching children preferred.
• Must hold the following American Red Cross certifications:
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • First Aid
  • CPR/Professional Rescuer
  • AED
  • Administering Emergency Oxygen
• Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

Skills

• Knowledge of Mountain High Swim League rules and regulations.
• Ability to travel to meets.
• Knowledge of and ability to physically demonstrate 4 competitive strokes, starts, and turns.
• Ability to effectively convey information to participants and parents.
• Skill in instructing others and coaching participants to improve techniques and times.
• Knowledge of and ability to physically perform rescue techniques, life-saving procedures, and water safety instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in developing coaching approaches and techniques.
• Ability to apply principles of motivation, incentive, and leadership.

Physical Demands

• Ability to physically withstand extended periods of time in the pool and pool area.
• Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
• Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
• Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information.
• Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment

• Exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water, and other conditions found in the pool area.

Equipment Used

• Occasional use of personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools) in the course of employment.
