Essential Duties & Responsibilities Plans workouts and coaches youth on competitive swimming during practices and meetsOrganizes relays for swim meetsDirects Aides in working with participantsPerforms record keepingCommunicate progress to parentsMay be required to perform emergency first aid and life-saving techniquesPerforms other duties as assigned or required Minimum Qualifications An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: One-year previous coaching experience; some previous experience teaching or coaching children preferred Licenses And/or Certifications Required Must hold the following American Red Cross certifications: Water Safety Instructor (WSI), First Aid, CPR/Professional Rescuer, AED and Administering Emergency Oxygen Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of Mountain High Swim League rules and regulationsAbility to travel to meetsKnowledge of and ability to physically demonstrate 4 competitive strokes, starts and turnsAbility to effectively convey information to participants. Skill in instructing others and coaching participants to improved techniques and timesKnowledge of and ability to physically perform various rescue techniques, life-saving procedures and water safety instructionAbility to communicate to children and adults effectivelyAbility and willingness to work as part of a teamAbility to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to coachingAbility to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership Physical Demands Ability to physically withstand extended periods of time in the pool and pool areaOccasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standingOccasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawlFrequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipmentVision for reading, recording and interpreting informationSpeech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens Work Environment Exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water and other conditions found in the pool area Equipment Used This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
