About the role

The Aquatics Program Coordinator and Head Coach provides overall leadership, administration, and coaching for the SCRA Aquatics Program. This position is responsible for developing athletes, leading and supporting coaches, overseeing program operations, delivering exceptional member service, and maintaining compliance with Stanford University and USA Swimming standards. The role requires balancing coaching excellence with administrative responsibilities and staff leadership while demonstrating professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, effective communication, and a collaborative, solution-oriented approach. The incumbent represents Stanford Recreation & Wellness with integrity and responds constructively to challenges in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promote wellness programs through active, ongoing communications including departmental talks, email distribution, mail distribution of class flyers, website development, and participation in benefits and wellness fairs.
  • Implement, administer, and evaluate day-to-day operations of wellness program(s); solve problems and make decisions that impact the direction of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommend curriculum changes to achieve program goals.
  • Provide counseling to individuals on wellness activities and programs.
  • Develop health education content for flyers and brochures.
  • Represent the program to internal and external constituencies through lectures, presentations, department meetings, and professional conferences.
  • May hire, orient, and provide ongoing training and direct supervision to wellness program staff.
  • May oversee the coordination of group fitness and healthy living classes, including planning and scheduling, coordinating facility use and instructor resources, purchasing and maintaining equipment, and quality assurance.
  • May draft and oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience or a combination of relevant education and relevant experience.

Skills

  • Experience in health promotion and/or wellness coaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Superb attention to detail.
  • Experience with MS Office products and database applications.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
