About the Role

Swim Teachers at Foss Swim School (FOSS) do more than teach swimming—they help students build confidence and lifelong water‑safety skills. The position includes paid training and ongoing support to help you succeed in the water and grow within aquatics.

Compensation

  • Base pay starts at $19.00 per hour.
  • Additional training can increase the base amount.
  • Weekend shifts add $3.00 per hour.
  • Substitute shifts add $1.00 per hour.
  • Quarterly performance‑bonus potential.

Schedule

  • Part‑time, year‑round (minimum 10–12 hours per week).
  • Typically 3 shifts per week, each 3–5 hours.
  • Weekday evening shifts start around 3:45 p.m.
  • Weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) available.
  • Substitute shifts eligible for extra pay.

Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons for 1–4 students using the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
  • Create a safe, engaging learning environment where students build confidence and water‑safety skills.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and teammates through clear communication and collaboration.
  • Adapt lessons to individual student needs while maintaining safety.
  • Maintain a positive, reliable, and professional attitude in every lesson.
  • Enjoy working with children and helping others succeed.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a warm indoor pool environment (water up to 91 °F).

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Work in and around a warm, humid indoor swimming pool.
  • Participate in water‑based training, including putting your face in the water, floating, going underwater, and demonstrating skills.
  • Demonstrate basic swim strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
  • Move safely throughout the pool and remain active in water up to 4 feet deep while teaching and supervising.
  • Monitor students, communicate with families and teammates, and respond appropriately in a busy aquatic environment.
  • Read and comprehend written and digital training materials; complete online courses, videos, and assessments.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, performing bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and other movements required to teach and assist students.
  • Work safely around pool chemicals, industrial equipment, and other typical aquatic‑facility supplies.
