About the Role
As a swim instructor, you will teach swim lessons and apply swimming and water safety skills. You will adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience, and ability of participants to help them meet course objectives while ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach swimming and water safety skills using thorough knowledge and application of course materials.
- Understand and enforce facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Adapt teaching methods to participants' age, experience, and ability.
- Ensure all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and equipment is safe.
- Cover all required material for each level of instruction.
- Communicate regularly with participants and parents about progress.
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies according to facility action plans.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum two years of high school education.
- Minimum one year of lifeguard experience (preferred).
- Previous swim lesson instruction experience (preferred).
- Previous work with children and adults in private and group lessons.
Qualifications
- WSI Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- American Heart Association BLS Certification (CPR/AED, First Aid).
- Lifeguard Certification through American Red Cross or other approved certifying body.
- Leadership, public relations, communication, and decision-making skills.
Pay
Compensation range: $13.00 - $18.00 per hour. Employee pay is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. This range does not include benefits or pension plan.
