About the role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Surveyor (Mechanical) to conduct condition assessments in City-owned buildings for the Asset Information Management System (AIMS) program of the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct condition assessments in City-owned buildings.
  • Inspect and assess the physical condition of exterior and interior building components.
  • Record existing conditions and assess repair and replacement needs.
  • Average 2 to 3 buildings daily, up to four days per week, followed by report preparation.
  • Prepare facility assessment reports suitable for sponsor budget planning purposes.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in surveying, surveying engineering, surveying engineering technology, or similar surveying-related majors, with two years of full-time satisfactory land surveying experience.
  • An associate degree in surveying-related majors, with four years of full-time satisfactory experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, with six years of full-time satisfactory experience.
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.

Qualifications

  • To be assigned to Assignment Level I - A, a baccalaureate degree is required.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level I - B, at least one additional year of experience is required.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level II, two additional years of experience are required.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level III, three additional years of experience are required, along with registration as a New York State Land Surveyor.

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of building construction methods, materials, and assemblies, especially older 19th and 20th centuries buildings.
  • Expertise in the forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues.
  • Up-to-date understanding of construction and material costs.
  • At least 5 years of prior relevant field inspection experience.
  • Physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, and basements within multi-level buildings, and maneuver through confined spaces.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

Pay

$78,740.00 – $90,551.00
