About the role

Kent is looking for a Surveyor to be based in Deer Park, Texas supporting Baytown, TX operations and regional project site(s). As an Instrument Person, you are the technical member of a crew responsible for the well-being and safety of other crew members, the completion of scheduled workload per assignment, and the preservation of data quality and quantity.

The Surveyor receives scheduling assignments and is responsible for directing, organizing, executing survey fieldwork, and documenting field observations according to company policies and acceptable practices. You will also monitor crew performance in the field to maintain the quality of the data collected.

Responsibilities

To prepare for fieldwork, a Surveyor must:

• Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
• Obtain work requests from Survey Supervisor & Lead Surveyor.
• Become familiar with work area locations, review travel arrangements with Supervisor, and manage all safety concerns.
• Review with Supervisor safety concerns outside of the standing JLA.
• Inform Supervisor if survey activities require support for permit issues and other contractor support (e.g., scaffolds, test trenches, special lifts, or required equipment).
• Supply Supervisor with information to maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Ensure the Survey Crew checks in and out at the control center or has proper work authorization in accordance with client procedures.
• Prepare execution plan and obtain necessary documentation to execute field survey work.
• Obtain proper safety equipment from the Safety team; report to Supervisor if equipment is unavailable.
• Contact survey request client to coordinate field review and execution (when necessary).

During fieldwork, the Surveyor will:

• Regulate work to ensure all site safety standards, work practices, and guidelines are adhered to.
• Communicate any safety issues, regardless of severity, to the Supervisor.
• Keep Supervisor & Lead Surveyor informed of all movements outside of the Office.
• Receive Client Work Permit or approval to begin field survey work.
• Communicate Work Permit issues to Supervisor (if necessary).
• Execute field survey work & report work estimate to Supervisor & Lead Surveyor.
• Operate Total Station, Laser Scanner, Auto-Level, or other survey instruments provided to capture field data.
• Resolve technical issues in the field and communicate them to Supervisor & Lead Surveyor.

After fieldwork, the Surveyor will:

• Complete survey write-up report and issue it to Supervisor & Lead Surveyor.
• Work with a Survey Checker to align data with procedures.
• Assign Junior Surveyors tasks to download Survey data or assist with creating a report.
• Assign Junior Surveyors duties to keep vehicles clean and prepared for the next work request.
• Have the Crew report to Supervisor for extra assignments to maintain productivity during downtime.
• Ensure the Crew reviews the survey for completeness.
• Update Survey Work Request Program in PASS.

In addition to the responsibilities listed, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management, within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills and role.

Requirements

• Diploma or College Degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience.
• Proven experience with Leica Geosystems survey hardware and software.
• Experience with Laser Scanning hardware and software.
• Ability to complete required BASIC and Site-Specific safety training as necessary.
• TWIC Required.
• Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication.
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Effective time management, planning, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in multiple groups in a team-oriented environment and independently when necessary.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and between various job sites as required.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to bring projects to successful completion.
• Ability to work extended durations, holidays, and weekends when necessary.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and embrace charter values.
• Foster good relationships and team working ethic with sub-contract teams to promote safe working practices and efficiency.
• Experience working in an integrated team from diverse locations.
• Some lifting; max 50 lbs.
