About the Role
This Surveying role requires you to measure the size and shape of land areas, determine the position of boundaries for public or private land, and physically set out land and building developments. You will survey and model underground public utility mains using specialized survey equipment. All duties are performed according to company operating procedures to maximize safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Measure and model the depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, and electric lines.
- Examine previous records and evidence to ensure data accuracy.
- Research and design methods for survey processes.
- Use equipment and tools to accurately measure land features (e.g., longitudes, latitudes).
- Build maps and sketches.
- Communicate with clients, site contacts, and management.
- Use a variety of techniques (electrical, magnetic, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to measure utilities.
- Ensure surveying tasks are completed in an efficient, safe, and professional manner.
- Maintain allocated equipment and vehicles.
- Pre-organize job requirements (DBYD information, field notes, design files) as needed.
- Adhere to Astrea's and clients' safety requirements.
- Ensure client satisfaction and effective use of resources.
- Carry out Job Safety Analysis prior to each shift.
- Work according to our Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies and Procedures of the company and client.
- Complete paperwork correctly (hire dockets, timesheets, office paperwork, etc.).
- Perform data entry for specific jobs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, site officials, and customers.
- Manage time effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in the Civil Construction industry, specifically in Surveying.
- Broad understanding of subsurface utility engineering standards and legislative compliance.
- Previous experience operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, including survey instruments and laser scanners.
