Bravus Mining and Resources’ Carmichael mine is an open-cut thermal coal mine in the North Galilee Basin, approximately 160 kilometres northwest of the town of Clermont. Carmichael produces more than 12 million tonnes of thermal coal for the export market each year. More than 1400 people are engaged in permanent roles at Carmichael, with workers traveling to site on direct flights from Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, or Mackay (approximately 55 minutes flight time). Team members living in the Isaac region may opt for drive-in, drive-out arrangements with individual travel and fatigue management plans.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager - Integrated Planning, you will support mine development, production activities, and statutory compliance while collaborating closely with Operational, Technical Services, and Planning teams. This position operates on an 8/6 roster, providing eight days on and six days off.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct survey pickups, set-outs, and spatial control surveys across the mining operation.
  • Support mine planning, production, drill and blast, and operational activities with accurate survey data.
  • Monitor mine conformance against approved plans and design parameters.
  • Complete volume calculations, reconciliations, and production surveys.
  • Prepare and maintain statutory plans, mine records, and reporting documentation.
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS, total stations, drones, and associated software.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with Queensland mining legislation and site standards.

Requirements

  • Degree or Advanced Diploma in Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Mine Surveyor Certificate of Competency (Queensland) or progress toward certification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in open-cut coal mining survey operations.
  • Strong knowledge of mine survey principles, spatial control, and volume calculations.
  • Experience with mine planning and survey software.
  • Understanding of Queensland coal mining legislation and statutory survey requirements.
  • Current Standard 11 and Queensland Class C Driver Licence.
