About the role

As a survey technician located in our Taylorsville, Utah office, you'll spend approximately 80% of your time in the office and 20% in the field. Your primary role will be working with survey data, preparing drawings and plans, and supporting projects in an office environment. Periodically, you'll get out into the field to assist with surveys, collect data, and gain hands-on experience. At Avenue we believe cross-training staff between field and office tasks makes better, more well-rounded surveyors and provides greater opportunities for future advancement and an accelerated path to licensure. Additional tasks, based on experience, may include preparation of, or the retracement of plats, deeds, legal descriptions, or other surveying and conveyance documents. We are also open and flexible with those who may only be looking for part-time work or internships in survey.

Responsibilities

  • Process, organize, and review survey data collected by field crews for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with drafting survey plans, drawings, plats, exhibits, and other project deliverables using CAD and surveying software
  • Assist with survey calculations, property research, boundary analysis, and preparation of technical documentation
  • Support Professional Land Surveyors and project teams with boundary, topographic, construction, and other survey projects
  • Perform quality control reviews of survey data, drawings, and project deliverables
  • Maintain organized project files, survey records, field data, and other documentation
  • Periodically assist with field surveying activities, including data collection, measurements, and the setup and operation of GPS/GNSS, total stations, levels, lidar, drones, and other surveying equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma required
  • 2+ years’ experience in surveying or surveying internship preferred

Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and self-starter; can work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with CAD is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 100% of the time
  • Consistently operate a computer and other office equipment such as scanner/printer, paper cutter, laminator, etc.
  • Communicate with discipline experts, clients, team members, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in field and office situations
  • Must be able to perceive digital software, programs, and websites
  • Frequently traverses uneven, sloped, or rugged terrain for extended durations
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
