About the Role
As a Survey Party Chief, you'll support projects across the United States, delivering high-accuracy geospatial data in a variety of environments. You'll lead field operations, mentor junior surveyors, and play a key role in coordinating survey activities while working with industry-leading technologies including terrestrial and kinematic laser scanning, NavVis VLX, HP SitePrint, Leica Total Stations and advanced CAD software. This role is ideal for an experienced Survey Party Chief looking to develop their career with a leading geospatial company delivering projects across the US and internationally.
Please note: This position is advertised as Survey Party Chief to align with US industry terminology. Within Plowman Craven, the role is internally titled Surveyor.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate field survey operations across a range of projects and locations.
- Establish control networks and closed-loop traverses using Leica Total Stations.
- Carry out terrestrial and kinematic laser scanning, including NavVis VLX surveys.
- Deliver high-accuracy setting out using traditional methods and HP SitePrint technology.
- Process and interpret survey data using CAD and geospatial software.
- Ensure quality standards, health & safety compliance, and accurate project documentation.
- Mentor and support junior surveyors while collaborating with project teams and clients.
- Contribute technical expertise to project planning, estimates and proposals.
Requirements
- Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Certified Survey Technician (CST) certification preferred.
- Experience using GPS, Total Stations and laser scanning equipment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS and geospatial processing software.
- Ability to lead field teams and mentor junior surveyors.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate survey data.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the United States.
