Survey Party Chief

Lead a survey crew in both field and office settings, advancing your surveying career while working with cutting-edge technology.

Responsibilities

• Lead a survey crew in completing control, topographic, boundary, construction layout, and utility location surveys.
• Operate advanced surveying technology including robotic total stations, GPS equipment, laser scanners, automatic levels, and data collectors to accurately gather field data.
• Interpret construction plans, perform field calculations, and execute precise construction staking and layout.
• Maintain detailed field notes and manage survey data, files, and photographs.
• Ensure proper maintenance and operation of survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
• Follow all safety requirements and adhere to established health and safety procedures.
• Mentor and support junior crew members while helping manage field schedules and project workloads.
• Represent the organization professionally when interacting with clients, property owners, and project stakeholders.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher in Surveying & Mapping or Civil Engineering Technology preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief.
• Experience with Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Business Center preferred.
• Construction layout and/or utility corridor project experience preferred.
• Strong mathematical and trigonometric skills with an understanding of survey accuracy and error analysis.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to make independent decisions and direct field crews.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
• Willingness to work overtime, travel as needed with per diem provided, and work in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background, motor vehicle, and drug screening requirements.
