Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Survey Manager with an active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license to lead our survey operations and manage a high-performing team of survey professionals across multiple locations. This role combines technical expertise, people leadership, and project oversight to ensure quality deliverables, client satisfaction, and efficient project execution.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of survey staff, including surveyors, technicians, and field crews
- Manage workload planning, staffing, scheduling, and project prioritization
- Oversee and perform survey review, calculations, boundary analysis, and QA/QC
- Ensure compliance with state laws, professional standards, and company procedures
- Serve as the responsible PLS on survey projects, including signing and sealing plans
- Coverage with project managers, engineers, and clients to support project goals
- Support staff development through mentoring, training, and performance feedback
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team development activities
- Aid with budgeting, resource forecasting, and continuous process improvement
- Represent the survey department in internal meetings and client interactions
- All other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in [State] (multi-state licensure a plus)
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive survey experience
- Proven experience managing or leading a survey team
- Strong knowledge of boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking
- Proficiency with survey software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, or similar)
- Experience repairing and reviewing Platts is preferred and not required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and quality standards
Qualifications
- Experience working in a consulting or multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Familiarity with UAV, LiDAR, or advanced survey technologies
- Prior responsibility for departmental operations, budgeting, or workflow improvements
- Strong client-facing and business development support experience
