About the role
As a Survey CAD Technician, you will produce a variety of land-survey drawings and map substitutes from inception to completion with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data, including topographic maps, route surveys, boundary surveys, base maps, real-estate exhibits, right-of-way control maps, site plans, as-builts, and quantity surveys.
- Reduce field notes and verify reductions and calculations made by others.
- Perform coordinate-geometry calculations such as intersections, curves, inverses, and area calculations; adjust field calculations.
- Generate quantities of various materials.
- Prepare pre-calculations and assemble reference data for field crews.
- Post-process static GPS data and integrate conventional optical data, static GPS data, and RTK GPS data into projects.
- Conduct quality-control checks on compilation and QA/QC on deliverable products.
- Research field-survey data, vertical control, certified corner records, geodetic control points, appraisal maps, and other sources to ensure compatibility with adjacent properties and previous surveys.
- Make vertical-control surveys for aerial surveys; determine elevations for various surfaces.
- Establish control for alignment and benchmarks; tie to existing centerlines and U.S.G.S. benchmarks.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma (required).
- Graduate of a two-year program in computer-aided drafting and design from an accredited college or technical school (preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in surveying and mapping using AutoCAD or similar CAD software (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to our company insurance provider (required).
- Ability to work safely and comply with all safety regulations.
Skills
- Proficiency with the latest version of AutoCAD and other surveying software.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Earth, Trimble Business Center, GIS, and GPS.
- Extensive knowledge of survey and mapping principles, practices, standards, procedures, and project management.
- Experience with Trimble data collection, GPS receivers, and robotic total stations.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical computations.
- Considerable knowledge of county, state, and local survey laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Considerable knowledge of photogrammetric mapping, LiDAR, and other remote-sensing principles.
- Considerable knowledge of civil-engineering principles and ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
- Skill in identifying discrepancies between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to solve advanced mathematical problems.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed surveying drawings, legal descriptions, deeds, construction plans, and abstracts.
- Ability to travel as needed.
