Survey CAD Technician
About the role
The Senior Survey Technician serves as the technical lead for the preparation of internal deliverables on assigned land survey projects. This role maintains a high level of technical proficiency and acts as a key technical resource for the Land Survey Department. The position leads the creation of survey drawings, maps, plats, construction stakeout layouts, and survey base files, supporting projects through CAD production, field data processing, calculations, quality assurance, and close coordination with project managers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review detailed survey drawings, maps, plats, topographic surfaces, contours, and construction stakeout layouts for a variety of land surveying projects.
- Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Civil Suite, and related survey software to develop accurate and complete project deliverables.
- Process field survey data, review deeds, plats, and legal documents, and perform survey calculations to support boundary, ALTA, topographic, and other survey types.
- Perform QA/QC checks on all survey deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and client requirements.
- Coordinate closely with project managers and internal teams to meet project schedules, deadlines, and client expectations.
- Support the mentorship and technical development of junior survey staff by sharing expertise, reviewing work, and providing guidance on best practices.
- Contribute to the preparation of as-built documentation, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and other land surveying products as needed.
- Maintain organized survey base files and documentation to support efficient project execution and future reference.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of land surveying office experience supporting survey projects and deliverables.
- Strong experience preparing and interpreting topographic surveys, ALTAs, boundary surveys, as-builts, and related survey drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for survey drafting and design tasks.
- Ability to process field data, perform survey calculations, and interpret deeds, plats, and legal survey documents.
- High attention to detail with a strong QA/QC mindset to ensure accuracy and compliance in all survey deliverables.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with project managers and internal teams.
Work Environment
The Senior Survey Technician works in a professional office environment focused on civil engineering, land planning, surveying, urban design, and development consulting for a variety of public and private projects. The role is primarily office-based, using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Civil Suite, GPS-related workflows, and other surveying technologies to produce high-quality deliverables. Work involves collaboration with project managers and cross-functional teams, adherence to project schedules and deadlines, and a commitment to accuracy and quality. Standard professional attire is expected, reflecting a collaborative and client-focused consulting environment.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
