Surgical Urology and Subspecialties - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
Hartford Healthcare is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Urology, Surgery, and Surgical Subspecialty team at Backus Hospital. The Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) will be an essential part of the multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for a wide variety of surgical/urology patients encompassing numerous subspecialties including Urology, OB/GYN, Urogynecology, Breast Surgery, and Plastic Surgery.
About the role
APPs are involved in all aspects of surgical care such as managing surgical inpatients, admissions and consultations, operative first-assist, and bedside procedures. Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients. In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, they develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists. They provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identify problems outside of their scope of practice, referring appropriately to a physician.
Responsibilities
- Manage surgical inpatients, admissions, and consultations
- Operative first-assist and bedside procedures
- Perform routine physical examinations
- Formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial treatment plans
- Develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, including referrals
- Provide treatment within the scope of practice as designated by protocols
- Identify and refer problems outside of scope of practice
Requirements
- Unrestricted State of Connecticut Medical License (or eligible)
- Training as a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- 1+ years of urology and/or surgery experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
Schedule
Full-time, rotating three to four 10-12 hour shifts per week. Primarily weekdays. No call schedule.
