Surgical Technologist OB

Responsibilities

• Assists with the delivery of quality surgical care through planning and anticipating the surgeon/procedure needs and coordinating with the circulating perioperative nurse during surgical procedures.
• Assists with gathering and preparing sterile supplies, equipment, and maintaining the sterile field during surgical procedures.
• Prepares medications and solutions for use during procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Maintains accountability for instruments, sponges, and sharps to ensure no foreign objects are retained in the surgical wound.
• Monitors sterile field during procedure and takes appropriate measures to maintain sterile techniques.
• Performs high-level disinfection using established policies and procedures as required.
• Handles, picks up, delivers, and stocks non-controlled medications as directed by a licensed team member.
• Processes and re-stocks supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient operating room environment.
• Collects and labels specimens for diagnostic lab per hospital policy and procedure.
• Aids with transporting and positioning patients on the operating bed, specific to operative procedure, type of anesthesia to be used, and use of protective devices as indicated.

Requirements

None required (unless used in lieu of education as stated above).

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
• Graduate of a surgical technologist program OR hired prior to 9/1/2009 may substitute with 1-year experience in a hospital setting as a surgical technologist.
• Must have and maintain a surgical technologist certification (CST or TS-C).

Skills

Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong organizational skills are essential.
