Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist Lead to oversee GYN, Breast/Plastics, Davinci Robotics, and Bariatric surgical service lines within our 14 OR suites. The hospital performs over 10,000 surgical cases annually, utilizing advanced technologies such as Stryker Mako Robotic-Assisted Joint Procedures, Globus Excelsius Robotic Spine Navigation Platform, OrthAlign Precision Navigation, and Medtronic StealthStation Navigation.
Responsibilities
- Identify clinical and operational variables affecting patient and case outcomes, adjusting care proactively using required resources.
- Articulate the type, scope, and frequency of clinical and case variables, including patient condition, equipment availability, and physician requests.
- Ensure patient, physician, and case needs are met at the time of the procedure by extrapolating from previous experiences and creating individualized care plans.
- Engage other clinical professionals to assist in responding to potential problems.
- Provide clear and appropriate information and documentation for routine and complex cases, ensuring perioperative briefing and debriefing are completed.
- Document case status and report any changes in patient status or requirements.
- Coordinate the delivery of appropriate services for specialty, physician group, and patient population, facilitating seamless transitions between pre-, intra-, and post-operative care.
- Assist with room turnover, both directly and indirectly.
- Ensure the surgical pause is performed according to procedure and that hand-off to PACU meets established criteria, monitoring delay reasons.
- Proactively identify physician, case, staff, and patient family learning needs.
- Utilize vendors as a resource for education on equipment and instruments, including printed materials, videos, posters, and demonstrations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (required upon start).
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) via NCCT (required upon start).
- Registered Surgical Technologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia (required upon start).
