Surgical Technologist (CST or LPN)

About the role

The Surgical Technician, CST plays a crucial role in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures, maintaining the sterile field, and assisting in various surgical specialties.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room for surgical procedures including instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintains the sterile field during the surgical procedure.
• Scrubbing more general cases such as general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics.
• May act as 2nd, 3rd, or 4th scrub in all surgical specialties.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
• Or graduate of an LPN program with surgical experience.
• Equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• CST certification is required if working in Illinois.
• LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program.
• No prior experience is required.
• BLS.
• Mandatory Reporter.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people; ability to work under pressure and with a large degree of independence and accountability; and the ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.
• Able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.

Qualifications

• Competency in surgical technology or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
