About the role
We are seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist who shares our commitment to excellent patient care. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently and effectively assist physicians with operative procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon/physician’s needs both in preparing for and during procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency situations.
- Ensure sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup of surgical procedures.
- Handle instruments in a manner that prolongs their lifespan.
- Assist the circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment.
- Gather necessary surgical supplies and equipment in collaboration with the circulating nurse.
- Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
- Gown and glove surgeons and assistants.
- Maintain and update physician preference cards.
- Retain all specimens for pathology, confirming the source and name of each specimen with the surgeon.
- Transport surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas.
- Assist in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
- Interact appropriately and effectively with all patients and others, regardless of age or background.
- Use Standard Universal Precautions, proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
- Assist with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participate in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follow all equipment and safety guidelines; ensure knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
- Serve as a resource to other members of the healthcare team.
- Attend in-services, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, office staff, patients, and employees.
- Maintain patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
- Maintain certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.
- Act in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.
- Comply with Policies and Procedures and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Surgical Technician Certification Program.
- One to two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in Orthopedic Specialty/Total Joint strongly preferred.
